Green Leaf Grading

In many British-influenced tea producing areas, teas are graded according to leaf type, leaf size and the number of leaves plucked at a time. Here, green leaves are laid out in a grading system prior to processing.

There is a distinct divide between traditional, Chinese-influenced ways of evaluating tea quality and British-influenced ways of evaluating tea quality. The former appears in places such as China, Taiwan, Japan and Korea. The latter appears in places like India, Sr Lanka, Kenya and South America.
